FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Infrared Heat
The idea behind infrared therapy is to heat your body directly with far infrared heat. In a traditional sauna you are just sitting in a hot room – 180-220 degrees. In an infrared sauna, the heat is heating your body directly and only 20% of the heat is heating the air. You want to heat your body core, meaning your front core and your back core. Your body absorbs the infrared heat and reacts to it. The infrared heat raise your core body temperature and stimulates your lymphatic system, immune system and your cardiovascular system. Your bodies response to that is to sweat profusely. In addition to the infrared heat triggering a profuse sweat, the water in our bodies also resonate with far infrared heat and this also helps with the detoxification process. With this in mind, you now understand why we stress the importance of both front and back wall heaters in an infrared sauna. If you do not have front heaters in your sauna, you will not raise your core body temperature as well and you will not receive as much of the desired effect. All Clearlight® infrared saunas have heaters all around you… on your front, back, sides and legs.
Many sauna companies have floors composed of heaters covered with exposed with wood slats. This is a much less expensive way to create a sauna floor compared to a solid wood floor which you will find in all Clearlight® Saunas. They have found that sauna floors made with wood slats with openings between each slat rapidly become a sweat and bacteria trap – it’s challenging to keep the sauna floor clean and they don’t like the idea of having a live heater in an area so exposed to sweat. In all Clearlight® saunas, the floor heaters are placed underneath a solid wood floor – much more hygienic and classier looking as well.
The infrared frequency of any infrared heater is determined by the surface temperature of the heater itself. The lower the surface temperature of the heater, the longer the infrared wave and the more beneficial the infrared heat will be. Clearlight® large True Wave® II heaters run at an optimal 200 degree surface temperature producing exceptional quality far infrared heat. This means their heaters produce the majority of the infrared heat in the vital wave range of 5 to 15 microns with a good portion of wavelengths at 9.4, the optimal absorption range of far infrared by the human body. Only Clearlight® Infrared True Wave® II heaters combine the high infrared output of ceramic with long wave carbon infrared heat to produce the most effective infrared heaters available. You can only find this patented combination at Clearlight® Infrared Saunas! For more detailed information about their heaters and why they produce exceptional far infrared heat, please click here.
Infrared heat is completely safe and all objects give off and receive infrared heat. In fact, it is so safe, hospitals use similar heaters to warm newborns. Infrared is a part of nature and essential for life. The human body gives off and receives infrared in the far infrared band. When a mother rubs a babies stomach to relieve pain, it is the infrared heat from her hand that is causing the healing effect. Clearlight® has tuned their True Wave® heaters to give off far infrared in this same range for maximum absorption by your body and for maximum therapeutic benefits.
Yes. The ideal way to use any infrared sauna is to have the infrared heaters on the entire time producing the optimal infrared heat you desire. Infrared heat is most effective at lower temperatures as sweat oils secrete at lower temperatures and this sweat is different than water sweat. Your Clearlight® infrared sauna is designed to heat your body more so than to heat the cabin (about 80% of the heat heats your body and 20% of the heat heats the sauna cabin). The following is our recommendation for use of your sauna:
1) Turn your sauna on and set the controller to the maximum temperature. Let your sauna warm up for 20 to 40 minutes depending on the ambient temperature of the room.
2) After the warm up time, begin your sauna session.
3) Since the key to infrared therapy is heating your body core, you will find that you sweat more sitting up in the sauna with your back lined up with the back wall heaters heating your body core from the back. This positions you in such a way that the front wall heaters will be heating your front body core.
4) During your session the temperature will slowly climb inside the sauna cabin. Remember, your Clearlight® infrared sauna is heating your body more so than heating the air.
5) Stay Well Hydrated. It’s essential to stay well hydrated when using your sauna. It is estimated that 70% of people are dehydrated. When you are dehydrated, your body holds on to water and will not allow you to sweat very much. It is recommended to drink water before you get in the sauna and bring a quart of water into the sauna with you and drink it during your session.
Full Spectrum heaters in Clearlight® saunas radiate substantial levels of near, mid and far infrared heat. At 500w of infrared heat, each Sanctuary Full Spectrum heater emits strong amounts of infrared heat in all 3 wave lengths.
Far infrared has been studied for decades and is known to be excellent for a multitude of health issues including the pain and inflammation of arthritis, increased heart health, detoxing of heavy metals and chemicals and so much more. The mid infrared range is especially good for the muscles – soreness and inflammation, and the near infrared penetrates the deepest, thus being excellent for circulation and it’s been found to be the best for skin conditions, especially wounds that won’t heal.
For 20 years, people have experienced excellent results with our carbon-ceramic far infrared heaters alone. For many people, the Full Spectrum heaters make the sauna experience even better. As the technology of Clearlight® far infrared heaters improved, the temperature in the sauna cabin did not need to be so high – their far infrared heaters work best at a lower temperature – 120º to 130º. As the heaters became more advanced, more of the heat was being absorbed directly into the body, raising the body’s core temperature – creating the most beneficial sweat ~ but without the sweltering high heat in the sauna. If you want your sauna to get even hotter, the Full Spectrum heaters will assist with this.
If you have a more recent Premier Sauna, you now have the option to add a Full Spectrum heater to the door of your sauna.
Sauna Features
Canadian Mahogany wood is often used for the following reasons:
1) Mahogany is a harder wood that resists cracking and splitting caused by the heating up and cooling down in the sauna. No sauna wood lasts longer than Mahogany wood
2) Mahogany wood contains aromatic oils that are known for their healing and cleansing properties to aid detoxification during your sauna session.
3) Mahogany wood is naturally antifungal and antibacterial owing to the unique properties of Mahogany oil. This is especially important in the sauna where bodies, moisture, and heat combine to make the environment perfect for molds and bacteria.
4) Mahogany wood is one of the most beautiful woods available ranging from very light honey to a deep walnut shade.
5) Mahogany wood smells good and gives you a true sauna experience. WRCC is considered non-aromatic Mahogany and has a very subtle smell and is satisfying to the senses.
6) Mahogany wood can be easily sanded inside the sauna to remove any stains caused by perspiration and to bring back the fresh Mahogany smell.
North American Basswood is a “white” wood with a yellow to whitish color, “blonde” color. Basswood has a very dense cellular structure making it stronger, more stable and sweat resistant. It is also resistant to cracking and splitting.
Basswood is also considered hypoallergenic. It has almost no odor and is one of the only woods not considered a “sensitizer” for people with Multiple Chemical Sensitivities. Basswood is also not as rare as Mahogany, so it makes for a less expensive and beautiful option.
Clearlight® Premier Saunas have a more traditional design giving a more cozy and private feel to your sauna session. Each Premier sauna also comes with a beautiful bentwood lamp shade to give a relaxing glow of warm light in each sauna.
Sanctuary Saunas have a distinctive modern Italian design. The entire front wall is thick tempered glass, as is over 1/3 of the sauna ceiling. This gives a very open, contemporary feel to the sauna. In addition to the hybrid, far infrared carbon-ceramic heaters that you’ll find in every Premier Sauna, each Sanctuary Sauna comes standard with (2) powerful 500w Full Spectrum heaters emitting near, mid and far infrared heat. If you have a more recent Premier Sauna, you now have the options to add one of these Full Spectrum heaters to the door of your sauna.
Sanctuary Saunas also can be accessed with a Clearlight® App through your smartphone or tablet. With this App, your device becomes the sauna display and you can control your sauna by turning it on, off or adjusting the temperature. All Sanctuary Saunas also come with a cubby to store your devices, which also acts as a charging station.
Each Premier Sauna comes with basic Chromotherapy which consists of 3 lights composed for 5 LED’s each. This will give a light infusion of the color of your choice in the sauna. Each Sanctuary Sauna comes standard with Advanced Medical Grade Chromotherapy. This system is a panel of 96 LED’s which will give a brilliant infusion of the colored light of your choice. Controlled by a handheld remote, the intensity and vibrancy of the selected colored light can be adjusted to the perfect level each time.
Advanced Medical Grade Chromotherapy is also available as an add-on for all Premier Saunas. Easy to install, it can be added with your purchase or in the months or years ahead.

Warranty and Privacy Policy
Clearlight® infrared saunas are backed by 20 years in business, an A+ rating with the BBB and Lifetime Warranty. This warranty is a true lifetime warranty covering the entire sauna and all its components for the original owner. As long as you own your sauna, we guarantee it to be working properly and free from manufacturer’s defects.
Clearlight® prides themselves on being one of the few companies that provides you with a lifetime warranty on the entire sauna – heaters, wood, controls and electrical. Your Clearlight® infrared sauna is built in a modular fashion so replacing parts or panels is never an issue. Only the highest quality materials are used in each Clearlight® Infrared Sauna to minimize the possibility of warranty issues. Very few infrared sauna companies offer this type of complete lifetime warranty.
Although, most sauna companies call their warranty, “Lifetime,” in addition to multiple exclusions listed at the top of the warranty, you will usually find fine print at the bottom of the warranty. Typically, this fine print will say, “Lifetime Warranty” is “defined as 7 years.”
In fact, here is the fine print quoted directly from the competitor’s “Lifetime Warranty” – *Limited Lifetime Warranty covers normal use for the lifetime of the product which is defined as 7 years. Warranty is limited to replacement parts only and does not include costs for crating of glass door or freight for parts shipped past 90 days from the date of receipt of goods. The cost of labor and/or service technicians is not included. This warranty is limited to customers in the United States and Canada.
Clearlight® Lifetime Warranty is really what it says it is – Lifetime for the original owner, with no fine print about “Lifetime meaning just 7 years.” If an original Clearlight® owner is having a service issue anytime, even if they’ve had their sauna for decades, any replacement parts can be shipped at no cost to the customer. This is how the business has always been run and will continue to run because Clearlight® feels it’s the right thing to do. Integrity is a word they take very seriously.
